About Me

I’ve always believed that music writing should hit as hard as the records themselves. As a freelance music journalist, I specialise in capturing the energy, grit, and heart of the artists I cover—whether it’s a stadium-sized metal juggernaut or a rising underground psych-rock band playing to a handful of diehards.

My writing spans album reviews, artist profiles, live reports, interviews, and opinion pieces, but the common thread is my obsession with stories—why music sounds the way it does, what drives the people behind it, and how it connects with those who listen. I don’t just describe riffs and production choices; I get to the heart of what makes a record matter.

Growing up on a steady diet of classic rock, metal, folk, and punk, I’ve always been drawn to the outsider edges of music culture. I cut my teeth on bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Queen, then veered off into the doomier, darker corners—Pentagram, Witchfinder General, and modern torchbearers like Green Lung, Chelsea Wolfe, and Emma Ruth Rundle. At the same time, I’ve always had a soft spot for the camp and the theatrical: glam rock, occult rock, and anything with a bit of swagger and showmanship.

What makes me a strong writer isn’t just my ear for detail or my love of a well-turned phrase, it’s my ability to connect music to something bigger. I write with both passion and precision, weaving in history, personal reflection, and cultural context to create reviews and features that stick with readers long after they’ve clicked away. I’m as comfortable breaking down the mechanics of a crushing guitar tone as I am exploring the social politics behind a scene.

My work is rooted in authenticity. I’ve been on both sides of the barrier, as a gig-goer, promoter, and performer, which gives me a grounded perspective and a deep respect for the graft that goes into making music. I don’t write from a pedestal. I write from the pit, from the front row, from the late-night headphone listen. I write from an understanding of the phrase ‘first in, last out’. Knowing the literal blood, sweat and tears that goes into performing, producing, and all the mess in-between.

I’m always drawn to the liminal spaces in music: where the old meets the new, where tradition collides with rebellion, where folklore bleeds into fuzz pedals. My reviews are as much about the emotional impact of music as the technical details, whether I’m covering a doom-laden concept album or a high-octane punk EP.

If you're looking for a writer who blends sharp analysis with storytelling, who can dissect the bones of a record without losing its soul, I’m your person. I love working with outlets, artists, venues, and publications that value deep cuts, bold opinions, and the weird corners of music culture.

Let’s talk riffs, myths, and everything in between.
